Positive Material Identification (PMI) is the analysis and identification of a metallic alloy to establish composition by reading the quantities by percentage of its constituent elements.

PMI can be used at manufacturing, oil and gas, power generation and pharmaceutical plants, pre-service and in-service inspection of critical components and welds with PMI can reduce risk and its future consequences.

PMI can be used:

  • To make sure products/components have been manufactured using the correct alloy
  • To find potentially mixed-up alloys and to identify if the wrong material has been used
  • To ensure material conforms to the correct standard and specification (both customer and industry)
  • To ensure welded components have used the correct filler material
